Last week everyone in the house was under the weather. It came from my son, who somehow caught his first cold, and as we know, it easily passed along. As an adult I rarely get sick, but growing up I was always sick dealing with Asthma and severe allergies. However, I never let it stop me then and now was no different.
My son's cold passed along to me and I felt extremely sick, but I had to push through every day as my wife went to work. While I wished she could have stayed home I knew there was no other choice but for her to go in to work because we are currently a single income household and my wife had only been on the job for a short period of time. I felt like the guy from the Nyquil commercial who was sick and told his son that he needed a day off, but unfortunately that wasn't an option.
My little sick son just wanted to cry. It was so serious I tried to call my wife so that she could FaceTime with him to calm him down because I had no energy and I didn't want to play or fight with him anymore. All I wanted to do was take a nap and I felt like I wanted to cry myself. I know you’re thinking, "Why in the world did this adult man want to cry?" I asked myself the same question, but in the moment that's what I wanted to do. Taking care of a 5 month old, trying to maintain a household, and being a full time college student, as well as a blogger can be pretty time consuming. Okay enough of my ranting! After she didn't answer the phone I knew there was no other choice but to hold him until he slept, but in the end while holding him we both ended up taking a nap, just as I hoped.
Being sick is no fun and having a sick child is even more strenuous, especially as a new parent. It not only takes all of your energy, it makes you not want to do anything at all. However as a stay at home dad we have no choice. No days off for us, because we have a household to run and children to take care of.
